Characteristics of PI in-service student teachers in Kenya
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of PI in-service student 1 teachers, using their contact addresses. A stamped self-addressed envelope was also sent out together with the questionnaire for mailing it back after filling it in. Four hundred and fifty seven (457) usable questionnaires were returned. Results of the study indicated that most of the in-service students were between 31-40 years. Female in-service student teachers were found to be younger compared to their male counterparts. Over 90 per cent of the in-service student teachers were married with an average of 3 children. Over 85 percent of them had taught for over six years before registering into the in-service teacher programme. Slightly over half of the in-service student teachers (52.7%) had high educational aspirations.
