Urban Planning and Design is a multifaceted and complex process that requires variety and subtlety in policy response. Such responses need to be based upon a multi disciplinary understanding of the social and economic forces affecting urban areas, the nature of government and organisation and the physical nature of the city. The purpose of this study therefore is to carry out an assessment of the CBD of Nairobi in terms of its spatial structure so as to suggest a spatial and institutional framework for the spatial planning and design of the CBD of the City of Nairobi. This study involves the geo-spatial analysis and socio-economic profiling of the CBD of the City of Nairobi as defined by Uhuru Highway, Kenya Railways yards and Nairobi River.
