The role of emerging technologies librarian has become important in the processes of integrating the library digital systems. Emerging technologies used in the library help the students in their studies while equipping the staff with the best skills and competencies in library science. In Kenya universities have adopted new technologies to manage information on the web and send data faster to its users with the help of librarians skilled in Information Technology. Public universities face challenges in learning because of the large number of students and slow response to new technologies. This study investigated the role of Emerging Technologies Librarian (ETs L) at the University of Nairobi (UoN) library in Kenya. To achieve this, the study adopted both qualitative and quantitative approaches and collected data using the interviews with the librarians. Other methods included questionnaires, which were employed to students and an observation schedule. The results of this study reveal that the emerging technologies librarian manages Integrated Library System (lLS) and Information Communication Technology (lCT) roles, manage the library web, administer library digital services and integrate the e-resources. The study showed that few members of the library staff have competencies essential for emerging technologies librarian. Few library users are aware of the concept of the emerging technologies librarian. It also showed that issues such as lack of awareness on technologies uses within the library, lack of training on the students and staff and lack of funding to support workshops, training and conferences are the major obstacle facing emerging technologies librarian. In order to improve the roles of emerging technologies librarian, the study recommended training, seminars and workshops. The recommended strategies for increasing competencies were similar to those meant to improve roles ofETs L. UoN library also need to provide periodic articles in form of journals to educate students on the role of emerging technologies librarian. The study alsoen_US
