dc.description.abstract | raffic congestion is reaching intolerable levels in many metropolitan areas in both developed and developing countries. New building developments are considered one of the major causes of congestion-related problems in these cities, owing to inadequate mitigation measures. The purpose of this paper is to review the various measures that are being taken to mitigate the traffic impact of developments and to make suggestions for the wider and more effective implementation of these measures. The roles of the different parties involved in a traffic impact study of a development project are identified, and two case studies conducted in Bangkok are discussed. It is hoped that the present study can provide an insight into ways of developing more comprehensive and innovative measures to mitigate traffic impact of new developments in the major cities of developing countries in the future. | en |
