Development of computer software for solving vibration problems
Abstract
Microcomputer software programs for IBM
Personal Computer XT are developed and presented for
solving vibration engineering problems.
Problems of whirling of multiloaded simply
supported continuous beams, response of spring-damper-mass
model to various excitation forces, and torsional
vibration of shafts for both one-end-fixed and free-ends
torsional systems are analysed and solved. The software is intended for teaching
purposes in vibration engineering using microcomputer
technology. Developed in FORTRAN 77 the software is
conversational in style and easy to use. The student
solves problems with minimum effort by simply responding
to program prompts as to which data should be entered
and how to proceed to solutions. Furthermore, the
software will be available to practising engineers for
tackling related vibration engineering problems.
As control, sample problem solutions f rorn
standard t.ext book s like McCallion [16J, Hannah et al [8]
and available software BEAMS, Sebbowa et al ~2J are
used to test the validity of the product ~oftware VIPRO
which produces the predicted correct results.
