Information Technology-organizational Strategy Alignment in Public Organizations in the Gambia

Abstract

Organizations and information technology managers have shared a common concern over the alignment of organisational strategy and information technology. IT-organizational strategy alignment plays a significant role in ensuring that IT investments lead to enhancements in organizational performance. There is a gap between IT expenditure and service delivery in public organizations. The purpose of this study is to examine the information technology organisational strategy alignment in public organisations in the Gambia. The objectives of the study are: to investigate practices of information technology organizational strategy alignment in public organisations in the Gambia; to evaluate the extent of information technology organizational strategy alignment in public organisations in the Gambia and to assess the challenges of information technology organizational strategy alignment in public organisations in the Gambia. This study is guided by Strategic Alignment Model (SAM) and Waema’s Business-IT strategic alignment maturity framework (2024). This study adopts a descriptive and case study research design. There are 13 state corporations under the purview of the ministry of finance and economic planning in the Gambia. Employees working at the headquarter offices in these organizations are the target population of this study. Additionally, the study will employ non-probability size sampling to arrive at the number of employees per organization. Purposively sampling technique will be used to select participants in the organization. This study will use different strategy for data collection. Qualitative data will be analysed using narrative analysis. Results will be presented in the form of charts, tables and graphs.
