dc.description.abstractThis study set out to investigate barriers to girls education in Nairobi. In Kenya, despite Free Primary Education being introduced by the new government in 2003, Girls still face a lot of problems which needs urgent attention both by the government and other stake holders In the education sector to sort out to enable the Kenya girl achieve equal education with her brother. Pertinent data was gathered using a questionnaire. The target population was sampled out from Nairobi province whereby a sample of 45 respondents was selected. The research design was descriptive and data was analysed using both qualitative and quantitative techniques. The following were the findings of the study; First; there was gender disparity among the respondents as 70% were males and 30% were females Second; Most of the respondents faced various problems like lack of school fees an others which need to be sorted out by the education planners. Third; the girls need encouragement and support to be in school since they realize various types of difficulties in and out of school. The following recommendations were made; The government should strengthen its effort to provide basic necessities for the girl child. Abuse of any nature of the girl child should be discouraged at all levels to ensure the girl child gets quality education which is beneficial to her and the society as a whole. HIV / AIDS awareness campaigns should be strengthened at all levels so that behaviour change can be realized amongst the school going age in Kenya.en
