The lubukusu simple sentence :a government and binding approach
Abstract
This study is an investigation of the Lubukusu simple sentence. It aims at analysing the simple sentence within the GB theory as well as to test its (GB's) adequency.
Considering the fact that Lubukusu, like many other African Languages has not been well documented , we first provide background information , besides a purely pre-theoretical analysis- of the simple sentence. Using this background information as a launching pad, the study goes a head to show that Lubukusu is a head tlloitilllLanguage , thematic roles in the simple sentence are uniquely assigned , passivsed NPs, topicalized NPs and wh-words constitute the values of move CL in the simple sentence and that Lubukusu is a pro-drop Language . On the basis of these observations , the study concludes that to a larger extent GB is adequate.
