Wireless communications is a huge field, encompassing everything from radio and television broadcasting through pagers, mobile phones, and satellite communications. With expansion of this mode of communication, more and more applications come on board as they promise efficiency and profitability. However, thefield does not go without a major threat of security. This is due to the difficulty of implementation of security techniques that are available for other computing devices. The hand-held devices, computing devices joining the computing world, brings with them challenges in implementing some existing security techniques, mainly due to their limited computing resources. In this study, we have investigated thefeasibility of incorporating some security measures in cellular communications, a case study of short message service, by modifying the existing GUI SMS interface. We also went ahead to implement cryptographic security techniques as a security measure on cellular communications by applying a client server model kind of application. In our study, we were able to establish that it ispossible to incorporate security measures in cellular communications. We alsofound out that the best security technique that can be applied to cellular transaction system is cryptography. Finally we implemented aprototype system that applies cryptographic algorithms, with the support of GUI, to cellular communication devices.en
