dc.description.abstract | The study aimed at investigating the role of community water projects in alleviating poverty
in Buuri division of Buuri District. The main objective was to determine if community water
projects contribute to poverty alleviation in Buuri division.
The study adopted the descriptive survey design and data was collected using a
questionnaire through simple random sampling. The total population was 8000 househoIds
and a sample of 203 households was selected to be involved in the study. Data was analyzed
using the statistical package for social sciences and the results of the analysis presented
inform of frequency tables.
The findings of the study indicated that; community water projects have led to a reduction
water collection time in Buuri division, that water from these water projects bas been
utilized in various ways including, (domestic uses, small-scale irrigation and in the business
of selling water), that the time saved on water collection has been utilized in economically
productive activities which lead to an increase in the income and a decrease in the daily
expenditure due increase in production and therefore leading to poverty alleviation iJ Buuri division.
The conclusions were; community water projects have led a reduction in water collection
time. that water [rom these projects has been utilized mainly for domestic use and small
scale irrigation and hence the community water projects have contributed greatly towards
poverty alleviation in Buuri division . | en |
