Phytochemical investigation of resins from Commiphora holtziana (HAGAR) in kenya
Abstract
Commiphora holtziana (Hagar in Somali) gum resms were extracted by steam distillation to
separate essential oil, resins and gums. The resin component was extracted by methanol followed
by acetone, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane and finally with hexane. A combination of
chromatographic separation on hexane extract led to the isolation of three compounds which
were characterized by NMR. A total of 174 compounds were also detected by the GC - MS and
some 14 natural compounds were identified by the comparison of the mass spectra with data
available in the GC - MS library.
