dc.description.abstractThis study discusses the impact of gender roles on education in Hamisi District, Western Kenya. The principal objective of the study was to investigate whether gender differences impact negatively on the education of boys and girls in Hamisi District. The stucy examined this by focusing on the entry of boys and at form one level, attendance of school for both boys and girls, retainsion of the boys and girls in school and their completion of their education. The study was guided by the social theory which focuses on the fact that social and values form a fundamental part of the context in which women's decisions about educatior are made. Relevant data was collectec: through various methods. Direct observation, survey technique, informal interviews and see mdary sources were among the methods used. The data collected through the survey techniques as analyzed quantitatively while the data from other sources was summarized and analyzed qualitatively. A total of 60 informants, selected randomly participated in the study. An analysis of the findings indicates that gender roles impacts negatively on the education of both boys and girls in Hamisi District Western Kenya. The study concludes that gender roles impact on both boys and girls ai different levels. In comparison, girls,are in most cases negatively affected by gender roles as compared to boys who are not so much affected.en
