Strategy development for the Catholic diocese of Machakos
Abstract
Whilst Churches have a primary pastoral role, many have over time been engaged
in development work. A major concern for these churches remain their desire to
operate beyond pastoral, relief and welfare functions but manage the complex
programs whilst ensuring effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability in the face of
reduced donor funds; increasing calls to show results; political & economic
downturns; and general underdevelopment. Subsequently many such organisations
turn to strategic management to enhance their ability to grow and optimally
position themselves in these complex and unstable environments.
This study set out to establish how the Catholic Diocese of Machakos develops its
strategies as far as its development initiatives are concerned. The research was
undertaken as a case study and entailed utilization of qualitative research
techniques for data collection.
The data collected was summarized and coded a"dording to the study themes
before being evaluated and analyzed to determine their adequacy, credibility,
usefulness -and consistency. The data was analyzed using qualitative data analysis
techniques. A summary and conclusion has been drawn based on the study
findings
