Student portal for a heterogenous university environment
Abstract
The development of a campus portal is beneficial to the various stakeholders
primarily the campus student and the University itself. Students can access their
information and favorite links from anywhere they can access the World Wide
Web. An advantage of all portals is that the user's view can change from an
application-centric one to a view determined by the role of the individual user.
Thus a student can access information primarily targeted at him, whereas
various university entities control different aspects behind the scenes and
maintain content on the system. This system can help sustain positive contact
between each stakeholder and the university and provide conduits for
communication within interest groups. Its development encourages integration
and standardized use of technology. This in turn provides a framework and
motivation for development of online services and applications.
