dc.description.abstractThe title of this research is: A survey of factors that determine the level of job satisfaction among teachers in top ranking private secondary schools in Nairobi. This research was undertaken with two objectives in mind: (i) To find out the level of job satisfaction among teachers in high ranking private secondary schools in Nairobi. (ii) To identify the factors that determine level of job satisfaction among teachers in high ranking private secondary schools in Nairobi To meet these objectives, the study used proportionate stratified random sampling procedure. Out of the top twenty private secondary schools in Kenya listed in the Kenya Education Directory (2003) six were in Nairobi. 25% of the total teacher population was selected from each of the six top ranking private secondary schools in Nairobi. Thus the researcher had 51 out of 204 teachers . • Primary data was collected using a questionnaire from the 51 respondents. The data Was analyzed using frequency distribution tables, percentages, bar charts and graphs. The study revealed that the teachers in top ranking private secondary schools in Nairobi were satisfied with their jobs. VIII The factors that determine their level of job satisfaction includes: Recognition, pay, promotions, good working conditions and supervision. It was therefore recommended that management of these schools make effort to ensure that these factors are put into consideration in their institutions to avoid turnover or low productivity. Further studies were recommended to find out the factors that determine the level of job satisfaction in public secondary schools in Nairobi.en
