dc.description.abstractThe dynamism of the environment posses challenges to organisations, which as open system have to respond through appropriate strategies. There must be a match between strategic choice and the challenge in the environment. The appropriate strategy is necessary in order to remain competitive and sustainable. Energy sector like many other sectors have experienced changes in the external environment, which have called for adoption of strategic response if players within the sector are to remain competitive. KenGen as one of the actors in the sector has experienced changes, which have propelled it to act lest it fail to survive. This study sought to determine KenGen strategic responses to the changes in its political, economic, social, legal and technological environment. Primary data was collected from the heads of departments of the company, selected from various departments such corporate strategy, human resources, regulatory, and business development, sales and marketing department. The method used was personal interviews. The data collected which is qualitative in nature, was analyzed using conceptual content analysis. Findings were then interpreted, conclusion made and recommendations made.en
