    Abstract
The escalation and convergence of distributed networks and wireless telecommunications has created a tremendous potential platform for providing business services. The immediacy, interactivity and mobility of wireless devices provide a novel platform for business applications. The personal and ubiquitous nature of devices means that interactivity can be provided anytime and anywhere. This project outlines the technology behind short mesaging services, the application of SMS to query a customer bank balance anywhere anytime, and the ability to request and receive mobile top up services remotely. The project concludes with a recommendation of further research in Mobile Commerce, which is an area that is foreseen to a business channel of the future.
