The main purpose of this study was to determine the pathways involved in the catabolism of glucose and proline by in vitro propagated Trypanosoma congolense. The procyclic Trypanosoma. congolense were cultured in. vitro as described by Brun and Schonenberger ( 1979). Respiration on glucose and proline were investigated. The end products of glucose and proline catabolism were also investigated and the activities of the enzymes likely to b involved in the catabolism of the same substrates were assayed. Th procyclic T. congolense repired on both proline and glucose.
