A low cost data logger
Abstract
The aim of the project ls to build a low
cost data logger, a device for collecting data
over a period of time with chosen intervals.
Though various data logging systems can be
obtained from the manufacturers, their prices
and power consumption are high. Here an
attempt ls made to design and construct a low
cost type. Complementary - Metal - Oxide -
Semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuit logic
is employed, chiefly because of its low power
consumption requirements and the availability
in the consumer market. The system produced can sample eight
different channels each carrying an analog
signal. This is made possible by an addressable
multiplexer. This signBl is then converted to
digital form by an Analog digital converter .
The binary' coded decimal output is stored In
a CMOS RAM memory, servipg as a temporary storage
of data collected. During sampling, time lS
provided by a clock chip irrcorporated and kept
running throughout the data collecting period.
