Linear transfer-function models Here fitted to different sets of concurrent daily areal rainfall and runof'f series. The daily rainfall and runoff records used were for two different catchments namely the Yala and Sondu river basins. Two wet; seasons extending from April to June and August to October over the years 1972 to 1978,were considered in fitting the models, Prior to fitting the models, the areal rainfall and runoff t.Linear series were subjected to several time and frequency domain analyses, In the time domain the auto correlation, partial-auto correlation and cross-correlation functions were estimated, whiIe in the frequency domain the spectral. and crosss pectral functions were computed. The characteristics of these functions were used t,o identify the orders of the rainfall runoff models for each of the two seasons within the seven years.en
