The Use Of Infiltration Parameters In The Design Of Long Furrow Irrigation In The Lower Tana Basin
Abstract
Four sets of eXDeriments were conducted in Hola
Irrigation Scheme and Research Station to study the effect of varying streamsize, type of soil, initial soil moisture content and length of furrow on advance
and infiltrability of the soil. From these experiments,
infiltration parameters which could be used i~ the design of lon~ furrow irrigation in the lower Tana
River Basin were determined. From the results obtained, there was observed significant influence on uniformity
of water distribution by different streamsizes. The
inflow stream advance rate was also found to vary with the varying initial soil moisture contents.
