'impact of institutions of higher learning on a town' a case study of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology
Abstract
The provision of education and training to all Kenyans is fundamental to the success
of the government's overall development-strategy. The long-term objective ofthe
government is to provide every Kenyan with basic quality education and training. The
rate of population growth and low economic growth in the recent past has outstripped
the provision of various services in the country. Educational sector has been hard-hit.
To address the problem, the government allowed an increased private sector
participation which has seen the establishment of forty three (43) private universities
and many tertiary colleges in the country, most of these institutions being located in
urban centers
The purpose of this study is to assess the impacts of the institutions of higher learning
on urban centers. The study has taken a case study of Jomo Kenyatta University of
Agriculture and Technology located in Juja town in Thika district.

problem statement, objectives, hypothesis and methodology. Chapter two gives
