The need for increased outputs of skilled man-power in a developing country like Kenya, cannot be overstressed. This document attempts to look into this need with regards to training for middle level industrial man-power and in particular the training carried out in the industrial training and vocational centres of the directorate of industrial training, Ministry of Labour. The document is divided into three parts. Part one deals with general aspects of industrial development and its role in a developing country like Kenya. It goes on to inspect the factors which affect industrial development in Kenya; Kenya's industrial policy, industrial man-power requirements and the overall scope of industrial training carried out. Conclusions are then drawn to substantiate a need for increased output of man-power. Part II deals with a general but architecturally biased study of typical or similar inst1'tutions, with subsequent syntheses of aspects of study. This is basically meant to determine the successes or failures as far as various aspects are concerned. The syntheses are then utilised to draw up design guide lines for a fictitious design on a choosen site in Nairobi. Part III deals with the exercise of arriving at a design brief, after a site analysis of the chosen site and a feasibility inspection of its utilisation with regard to the design guide lines. The resulting brief is utilised for a design exercise. It must be noted from the outset that some numerical and graphic information which it was the intention to include here, was not available and has therefore not been included.en
