Planning for education anywhere is always a long term process. This is mainly because it is necessary to preempt a situation where the demand for education facilities is not met adequately. It is also necessary to look at the different levels of the education hierachy and how they relate to each other and therefore how planning at one level affects the other levels. There is also a need to relate the planning of these £acilities to education policy to ensure that the policy is implementable in planning terms. The growth of an urban area, its land use distribution at present and·· in future very much affects the location and distribution of education facilities. Forward planning for these facilities must therefore take cognisance of such parameters. Other factors which directly affect the site location of education facilities such as accessibility and future land for expansion are also crucial to education planning.en
