The primary focus of this research was to establish if there are any Electronic Commerce (ecommerce, ecommerce) models that are specific to the tourism industry and if not, then develop one, based on the Kenyan tourism sector. This research work focused on how Information and Communications Technology (ICT) can be incorporated in the tourism industry in Kenya, with a view of solving some of the current challenges. It started by looking into the state of the tourism industry in Kenya and other countries in the world, which are considered as favourable tourism destinations and have leveraged ICT to harness their tourism industry. It analysed some of the strategies that such countries use in the implementation of ICT. The research established that application of ICT is mainly country specific. Further, various ecommerce models were looked into, so as to establish their applicability to the tourism industry. The landscape model was picked for study to evaluate its applicability. Some of the research strategies used included questionnaires, observation and content analysis. Data were analyzed with SPSS and MS Excel. Elements of the landscape model and other elements were considered and some were adopted while others were rejected. In the end specific elements were incorporated to make a tourism-specific model, called e-tourism. The research concludes by proposing an e-tourism model for Kenya.en_US
