Armed forces all over the world are faced with the proliferation of knowledge and technological changes that require innovative approaches. The increased challenges and . dynamism of military activities have made it necessary to improve the intellectual capacity of the officers. Commissioned officers are the leaders and commanders of defence forces. They should therefore be adequately trained both academically and professionally to be able to effectively deal with challenges in the changing security environment, make informed decisions, understand national and international security environment and competently handle matters of national security. This study is informed by the conditions of learning theory which stipulates that there are different levels of learning that can be programmed in hierarchical order according to their complexities and desired learning outcome. Military officers in Kenya undergo training sequentially from basic cadet level to the highest level at the National Defence College. The curriculum at each level is informed by the desired outcome. The research sought to establish the extent to which the Kenya Defence Forces training institutions were preparing the commissioned officers or their tasks in light of the post-Cold War challenges. Training has evolved with changes in technology, doctrine, and globalization. During the colonial era in Kenya, the British preferred to recruit uneducated people who could not question the colonial authority. But as time passed, things began to change and at the moment the objective is ,to get all officers to be of graduate level. The research adopted the descriptive survey design methodology which enabled the researcher to obtain pertinent information on the research problem. The study established that military officers in Kenya are well trained reflecting the high caliber human resource in society available to quickly adapt to the changing technology and utilize their knowledge in research and development in various doctrine and policies that ensure a ready force in all aspects.en_US
