dc.description.abstract | There have been issues in the measurement of the agenda in the media houses. This however, has not found a consensus among the researchers. More so, sscholars have not exhaustively addressed how foreign media influence the agenda for local media. The general objective of this study therefore, is to examine the degree to which Western media influence news offerings and programmes presented by KTN.
This study adopts a descriptive case study aimed at establishing the extent to which international media influence the agenda at KTN. This method allowed collection of qualitative and quantitative data. The population of the study was the employees of KTN. There are 346 employees of KTN and these will form the target population. The study adopts a multi-state stratified sampling to select a sample of seventy (70). The study uses a questionnaire as well as interviews to collect the primary data from various respondents.
The study concludes that Western media had a great influence in agenda setting by the local media and that KTN aired programmes that are western-oriented, particularly from CNN, BBC among' others. The study concludes that KTN airs programmes that are western oriented, shows appropriate content during broadcasts of foreign based programmes and news, deals with the importance of foreign news, reporters increased in foreign correspondents and news sources and the reality programmes in international television firms influence the criteria used for selection of international news and programmes broadcasted at KTN to a great extent. | en_US |
