Economic diplomacy is increasingly becoming a main focus of diplomatic relations today, especially for developing countries that are seeking to improve their economies. In view of Kenya's diplomatic history and the ongoing shift toward increased economic diplomacy, it is important to examine the factors that have brought about this shift. Considering the changing dynamics taking place at both regional and international levels, in order to remain relevant and competitive regionally and globally, Kenya must plan better for its economic future. The need for a vision is, therefore, apparent. Kenya Vision 2030 lays the foundation for an economic revolution. However, the Vision alone is not enough on its own; it must be supported with clearly thought out strategies, with clear priorities and strategies. The vision has to be linked to a good strategy to ensure its realization and in matters of international relations; it therefore becomes necessary to link economic diplomacy to the vision to ensure results. This study seeks to analyze the factors that have necessitated this shift in policy and whether or not this has brought about the intended benefits. It also links the country's 'economic targets to this shift toward economic diplomacy and especially highlight the impact that economic diplomacy has had on the country's economy. The findings of the study were that while the Vision 2030 looks overambitious a target at inception, the interplay between Kenya's foreign policy and the economic pillar has done the country good because there has been undeniable progress however scanty. This being only the first lap of the five year plans.en_US
