| dc.description.abstract | The water sector reform in Kenya seeks to address a broad cross section of challenges that have plagued the sector over the years. Among the issues is the need to improve the investment in water services and water resource management for wealth creation, disaster mitigation, conflict resolution and improvement in people's livelihood .. This paper sought to study WRUAs as established and gazetted as institutions in the water sector that are geared to addressing challenges as one of the strategies in poverty eradication and disaster preparedness and mitigation.
Water is a resource that cannot be ignored due to its key role that it plays on the people's livelihoods and therefore the need for continued and effective management of the set up institutions such as the WRUAs. Continued demand and competition amongst the water users for various activities pose great challenges such as conflicts, famine, increased poverty levels among others hence a threat to the envisaged development.
Several issues such as limited human and financial resources, set up policies and procedures, inter - organizational relationships among other factors interplay in hindering the associations from meeting their set objectives and goals and therefore great emphasis on reviewing the budgeting procedures and processes for skill development and resource mobilization, conflict resolution mechanisms, catchment conservation measures, water conservation practices, conformity to the set up guidelines (legal use of water) to avert the risk of failure and or delayed achievements is highly encouraged.
Integration of all the key findings will therefore describe the totality of the associations in their interactions, communication, motivation and participation of all people in decision Making for improved efficiency and performances. This will have a multiplying effect to Other associations in the other catchment regions once the findings are implemented in totality and dissemination of the same in support of encouraging sound water resources management for wealth creation, peace building and improved livelihoods. | en_US |
