Verminous pneumonia caused by A. abstrusus was found at necropsy of an 8-year-old mixed breed cat. Multiple nodules were found scattered throughout the lungs. Histologically, these nodules consisted of a granulomatous interstitial pneumonia around the ova and larvae that were located in the alveolar ducts and bronchioles. Hyperplasia of smooth muscle cells in the intima of arterioles and perivascular accumulation of lymphocytes were prominent findings. This is believed to be the first report in Kenya of A. abstrusus verminous pneumonia in a cat.
