Quality of work life programs and employee satisfaction: a survey of UNICEF employees

Abstract

Quality of life is the relationship between individuals and organizational factors that exist in the working environment. Quality of work life is the extent to which workers can satisfy important personal needs through their experiences in the organization. This study focused on quality of work life programs at UNICEF Kenya Office in Nairobi and its contribution to employee satisfaction.

The study was conducted to examine the quality of work life programs to employee satisfaction and the relationship between demographic factors with the perception of quality of work life. The study utilized a survey design, the questionnaire was semi-structured which corresponded to the respondents perceived satisfaction and quality of work life programs in UNICEF Kenya. A total of 80 UNICEF Kenya employees responded.

The respondents consisted three categories of International, National Professionals and General Service staff. The respondents were selected according to proportionate sampling. Data collected was' analyzed by use of statistical tools. Descriptive statistics is used to analyze the data and the mean scores were used to determine the perceived quality of work life programs. Chi square test was conducted to determine how perceived quality of work life programs and employees satisfaction was associated with the demographics of the employees.

The results showed that the minimum mean score of quality of work life rating was 2.47 and a maximum of 4.01. The minimum mean score of satisfaction on the aspects of quality of work life rating was 2.91 and a maximum of 3.95. This concludes that UNICEF employees are neutral with the quality of work life programs put in place.
