Education continues to play an integral role in shaping the lives of humans, propelling them to greater heights in life and enabling them to overcome great odds. Education can be used negatively for selfish gains and hence contributing to negative development. However, this study looks at the significant role that education plays during conflict and how it can be used strategically to bring about peace. The study examines the diverstating effects of conflict including the destruction of institutional structures in Somalia. The study seeks to show that with lack of proper education and attention to rebuilding the education sector in Somalia since the fall of proper government in 1991, a whole generation has now come of age without proper direction. In its fmdings, the research establishes that stakeholders including government, the international community and development partners agree that education must be considered in the short and long-term, consequently catering for smoother recovery in conflict situations. This research hopes that the data collected can provide the foundation for a useful analysis of what has and has not worked in Somalia particularly in placing emphasis on education in the realization of peace.en_US
