The focus of this study was effect of strategic procurement in project implementation in World Vision Kenya. The global business environment is increasingly getting more and more competitive and challenging for business firms and the response to these challenges cannot be uniform due to different political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal factors faced in different countries. The non governmental sector which World Vision Kenya operates in cannot be left behind since there is also shortage of donations due to the global financial crisis which affected most countries which give donations to the developing countries which Kenya is among them. Project implementation is the major role of most Non governmental organizations. The main reason for project implementation is that most of the finances received from donors is used through projects chosen by both the donors and management. World Vision Kenya has been implementing projects from the time it was started in 1974.World Vision Kenya has been always trying to improve on the implementation of projects due to the need to save on cost and time. Any project implemented by World Vision Kenya has a time frame of which it should be finalized and results measured. A higher percentage of project expenditure is done through procurement. Strategic procurement and supplier development have become important elements in the competitive strategies of firms faced with the challenge of reducing their costs and increasing efficiency without Compromising quality and customer service(McCue and Pier,2006).World Vision Kenya has been having challenges in project implementation due to many factors of which the major one is procurement. In order to solve the problem of project implementation, World Vision Kenya has been implemented various methods and one of them is strategic procurement. The case study in this project was undertaken in order to understand the role of strategic procurement in project implementation. The study adopted a case study approach. The case study was preferred for the study because the design provides an indepth understanding of the issues under study. The study concludes that strategic procurement in World Vision Kenya has brought about benefits such as reduced cost, competition among suppliers, reduction in time spent in procurement hence improving in project implementation time lines. The study recommended that there is need to implement strategic procurement in the day to day running of the organization in order to get the benefits of strategic procurement. There is also need to ensure that all the people involved in project implementation are conversant with the strategic procurement since it has a direct impact on projects undertaken by World Vision Kenya. The study concluded that World Vision Kenya has benefited from strategic procurement implementation and hence there is need to always involve procurement at all stages of project implementation.en_US
