This study assesses the agenda setting role of the media, and how the media covers climate change issues. It establishes factors that influence print media coverage of climate change. What this research reveals is that audience interest, editorial policy and profitability are key detenninants of media coverage of climate change issues. It shows that the media help influence the way the government, ordinary people and other actors view climate change issues. However, the study indicates that the media only has a limited capacity to change government and society's view of climate change. Even then, the study finds that there was sufficient infonnation on the issue. One of the reasons was that during the period under study, the Copenhagen summit was taking place and the media was providing coverage on the matter. This study also examines whether the media provided remedial measures on climate change. It establishes that although there was sufficient infonnation on the issue, there was insufficient information on mitigation measures on climate change. The study sought to find out whether there is an editorial policy on climate change. The research reveals that there is no editorial policy on the issue and also it is not clear whether there is an editorial policy on environmental issues too. This study assesses the status of environmental journalism in Kenya. It finds out that this area has not been taken up seriously because the number of environmental journalists is stilI low. In addition the study finds out that although environmental journalism training is provided, there is need to have more specialists trained in the field so as to improve the reporting of environmental issues.en_US
