Development prospects in Africa through international agricultural trade
Abstract
Agriculture is a dominant sector of most African economies. Thus the growth of the sector is central to the development of Africa. Agriculture generates foreign exchange revenue through exports. As such trade policies are important to the development process. The purpose of this paper is to assess the potential for Africa to improve its development prospects through participation in world agricultural trade. Factors which hinder progress are discussed as are possible measures which can facilitate greater development.
