dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to investigate the factors influencing effectiveness of performance appraisal system in Non-Governmental Organization in Kenya. Every sector has its ultimate aim to achieve set goals and objectives. In pursuit of these goals and objectives, efficiency and effectiveness are closely monitored in utilization of human and non- human resources. The main objective was to determine the factors influencing effectiveness of performance appraisal system in Non Governmental Organizations in Kenya hence the acceptability of the system in Kenya Red Cross Society - Garissa Branch. The study also investigated the factors that have contributed to the attitude the staff have on performance appraisal. The scope of the study was the staff of KRCS - Garissa Branch and only factors influencing performance appraisal and staff's performance were studied. The findings of the study indicated mixed feelings on performance appraisal due to the attitude of appraisers, feedback, lack of proper implementation and reward system. The Kenya Red Cross Society, Garissa Branch has not been keen on ensuring effective performance appraisal system is used in the organization by not critically taking into consideration factors influencing its effectiveness. The recommendations include development of separate appraisal systems for managers and other employees, freedom in discussion of feedback among employees and their appraisers and improvement of the exercise to achieve effectiveness of performance appraisal.en_US
