The challenge of unemployment in the society has been brought about by inadequate opportunities in the formal sector. This is the sector in which greatest percentage of the people graduating from schools and colleges aim in getting employment. This effect has brought up high poverty levels, insecurity, drug abuse and rural urban migration. To mest this situation, the study therefore sought to investigate factors influencing growth of selected informal sector enterprises in Shaviringa Division of Hamisi District, Kenya. ,The study sought to establish whether or not growth of selected informal sector enterprises was influenced by the government policies, education and training, infrastructural services, funding and family background which had resulted in high poverty levels, rural urban migration and insecurity caused by youth who engage in drug trafficking. The study was also guided by the theoretical framework which was founded by Desoto et al (1983) and it described how informal sector enterprises are regulated by the government basing on legal frame work put in place. The conceptual framework showed the relationship between growth and factors influencing growth of informal sector enterprise when they interplay to effect growth. Finally, it identified the knowledge gap that existed how it was filled. Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. Purposive sampling was used to select the D.O, two chiefs, two councilors, and six assistant chiefs from six sublocations.Simple random sampling was used to sample out 91 informal entrepreneurs and thus, a total of 102 respondents was selected. The data was collected using two questionnaires, one for administrators and the other one for informal entrepreneurs, interview schedule, Observation guide and documentary analysis were also used to source information from District Administrators. The data collected was analyzed using quantitative and qualitative approaches where distributions and percentages using SPSS were obtained and constructed tables using MS excel. The analyzed data presented indicated that, growth of informal sector enterprises was greatly affected by poor government policies, lack of education and Training skills, unconditioned infrastructural services, inadequate funding and poor family background. The survey finally recommended quick review of the factors pointed out and further recommended areas for further studies on Technology and Politics on growth of informal sector enterprises.en_US
