A Survey of Recruitment and Selection Practices of Pilots Among Commercial Aviation Firms in Kenya
Abstract
This study set to explore the recruitment and selection practices of pilots among
commercial aviation firms in Kenya. The study was founded on the premise that
piloting in Kenya remained a preserve of the rich and or the white community. This
paradox led to the objectives of the study which was to.-
a) Identify the practices of recruitment of pilots and
b) Study the practices of selection of pilots in commercial aviation firms in Kenya.
The second objective in Kenya identifies factors that influence the process in the
recruitment and selection of pilots in the commercial aviation firms in Kenya. The
study narrowed down to selection and recruitment among commercial aviation firms
leaving out the military recruitment of pilots which employs a different method
altogether.
In a growing, yet little known about piloting in Kenya, many parents and young school
going students have always expressed the desire to be pilots yet there is little or no
information available for them on what goes on in recruitment and selection.
This study will therefore shed some leading light on common practices and factors
influencing the recruitment and selection of pilots to all those interested in this well
paying yet risky and less known about career.
