Heavy metal (Pb, Cd, Cu, Znand Cr ) concentrations have been
determined on roadside surface soil samples obtained from Nairobi and
Mombasa cities. The analysis was done using two analytical techniques;
Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) and x-ray Fluorescence .
.(XRF). The relationship between the heavy metals content and distance
from the road curb has. been studied. Lead concentrations within the
central business district of Nairobi City (Zone A) were found to be high.
However, higher concentrations were obtained in certain localities in
Industrial area (Zone B).
