During February and April 1972, 3 weeks of observations of irregularity patches were made by two methods:
1.
(a) Non-great-circle propagation on the transequatorial path Lindau-Tsumeb;
2.
(b) Radar backscatter at Nairobi.
A comparison of the results shows high correlation in the occurrence of events observed, the correlation reaching a maximum at 2130 local Nairobi time. A detailed example of the movement of patches is given for one particular day. The significance of the results is discussed.
