Co-operatives in the Kenya Highlands settlement schemes
Abstract
In the course of the large scale (1.5 million acres) transfer of land in Kenya's Highlands since independence, co-operatives have been encouraged partly as an instrument of the land transfer, but mainly to assist the new ' settlers' in the organization of the sale of produce from their newly acquired farms. This paper is intended as a preliminary examination of the position of these co-operatives.
