For this special issue of TES we have selected four articles on constraints and options for managing trees in
Africa. The articles have been produced within a larger multidisciplinary research programme on People,
Trees and Agriculture in Africa (Petrea) funded by the Danish Development Research Council 2002-2005.
Research was conducted in Burkina Faso and Tanzania.
