A study was conducted to determine the challenges of strategy implementation at the Mavoko municipal council in Kenya. The study was carried out since there was no similar study that had been done on strategic planning practices at Mavoko municipal council. The researcher noted this gap and therefore sought to bridge the same. The study employed a case study research design since the unit of analysis was one county. Yin (1994), argued that a case study allowed an investigation to retain the holistic and meaningful characteristics of real life event. It involved an in-depth investigation of the challenges of strategy implementation at Mavoko Municipal County. Young (1960) identified a case study as a very powerful form of qualitative analysis that involves a careful and complete observation of social units. Primary data was collected using self administered interview guides techniques from published reports and other documents. Secondary data included the Mavoko county's publication, journals, periodicals and information obtained from the internet and new constitution. Interview guide were used to enable the researcher gain a better understanding and also enable a more insightful interpretation of the results from the study. Content analysis was used to interpret and represent the findings of the study. The study established that the challenges of strategy implementation at the Mavoko Municipality include poor team work; poor organizational culture that inhibits implementation of strategies; inadequate financial resources; demoralized staff and poor monitoring and evaluation systems. This therefore led to the conclusion that poor implementation of strategy will lead to failure in even the best form of strategy. Strategy implementation is the key aspect of strategic management and it therefore draws the line between success and failure.en_US
