The effect of leadership in strategic change implementation in Telkom Kenya
Abstract
Strategic change is undoubtedly part and parcel of the modem day organization. The dizzying pace of change in the market has called for a faster and more innovative response from the organizations if they are to make the cut. The effective management and successful implementation of strategic change is a strategic advantage and this has brought out the role of the leadership in a greater light. Leadership is just one of the factors that impact the implementation of strategic change, but arguably one of the most critical. This study proposes to highlight the role and effect of leadership in the wake of implementation of strategic change by studying a few key leadership aspects and their impact on the success of change implementation. This conclusions, inferences, and recommendations in this study are drawn from both secondary and primary data sources.
The secondary sources include books, journals, and web pages while the primary data was collected through an interview schedule where middle managers were interviewed. The research design utilized was a case study and Telkom Kenya was the sample organization. This particular organization was thought to be apt in that it has experienced some major changes in recent times. The data was mainly qualitative and was then analyzed and tabulated so as to facilitate for accurate inferences and conclusions, It may be concluded from this study that leadership alone may be more crucial than we know when it comes to the effective change implementation. While there may be other factors to such as resistance and corporate culture to consider, the leadership aspects of provision of direction, support, communication and the leadership's ability to solve problems easily mitigate the challenges associated with implementation of strategic change in any organization.
