The major objective of this study was to determine participatory approaches to women empowerment and to examine the relationship between education, capacity building and women empowerment. A descriptive non sectional research design was adopted for the study and data collected from various women groups within the region. The study was carried out at Makuyu and Kandara divisions in Murang'a South district, Central Kenya. A sample size of 32 respondents was drawn for the study. Data was collected using both closed and open ended questionnaires on one interview. An interview guide was also used to interview the one key informant from every group. Quantitative analysis using SPSS was carried out on the data. Measures of central tendency were used to show the characteristics of the data and frequencies displayed the distribution. The data was categorized, arranged and summarized and presented using tabulations. From the findings, various participatory approaches have been undertaken in the district such as Seminar/Workshops, Community Based approaches such as training cycles. However there is a need to improve on water supply and electricity provision, training on issue of inadequate resources, group issues and development activities, improve on infrastructure, illiteracy levels through adult education and economic empowerment among others as a move towards enhancing women participation and empowerment in Murang'a South district. The recommendations are that there should be continued adult education to help those who did not complete their education, commitment and performance should be enhanced by meeting regularly, the importance of men and women working together should be enhanced to help in discarding the culture of men not supporting the women in their projects, the government should put in place strict measures to abolish illicit brews and finally the issue of HIV/AIDS spread in the area should be checked because it is affecting development.en_US
