The past and the present understanding of the deep lithospheric structures beneath the Kenyan Rift Valley is reviewed and the results of the long-range explosion seismic experiment are discussed. A sill like intrusive body exists in the lower crust and there is only moderate crustal thinning beneath the central sector. No evidence has been established for the 'axial intrusion' to shallow depths.en
