Informal entrepreneurship in an African urban area
Abstract
This article reports the results of a survey on the socio-economic characteristics of enterprises and their operators in Mathare Valley, a major slum area in Nairobi. It describes their potential to generate profits, employment and to impart skills; the inter-linkages between these enterprises and other business areas; and the problems and constraints that they and their operators encounter.
