dc.description.abstractThe human resource is the singular resource that is key in the utilization of all other resources and therefore key in the optimization of these resources to maximize productivity. The need to have the employee highly motivated ought to be the concern and priority of any organization that expects to remain competitive and relevant. The study was carried out to investigate the Influence of Motivation on Employee Performance with particular reference to the University of Nairobi secretarial staff. Secretarial staff although not core are key as a bridge between the management and the customer and understanding what motivates them to perform at their optimum was the aim of the study. The objectives of the study were to establish the extent to which employee remuneration, promotion, involvement and training influenced the performance of secretarial employees of the University of Nairobi. The survey research was conducted where secretaries in University were targeted. The findings indicated that when employees are well remunerated, are promoted on the basis of merit, consulted and involved by the management on matters affecting their work as well as exposed to training in the relevant field, this in tum boosted their morale and heightened their performance. The study established that performance based pay as well as clarity of the policies in use and equity in their application would entrench commitment and loyalty as well as ensure improved employee performance.en_US
