dc.description.abstractIt is suggested that commercial fisheries as a strategy to alleviate poverty in communities around Lake Victoria should encompass policies, measures, programmes and action plans designed to take into consideration the concerns of artisanal fishermen, the unique situation of the communities, the sustainability of the fishery resources, and the environmental health of the lake. Possible approaches, solutions, and actions plans are presented.en
