dc.description.abstractHealth and safety issues play an important role in the effectiveness of workers. These issues ensure that the workers are safe when performing their activities. This study was undertaken at Coastal Rural Support programme (CRSP-K) and world Vision International. Both organizations undertake their projects among the residents of Kilifi district. The study was undertaken to find out type of project activities the CRSP-K and World vision are involved in Kilifi District, examine the working environment of the project workers in the two project organizations (CRSP-K and World Vision), to examine the various health risks associated with the projects and to establish measures taken to minimize accidents in the project work places. The research design was a case study and the sampling strategy was stratified random sampling. Data for the study was collected from both primary and secondary sources. This study was done for a period of six months. The data collected was analyzed using STATISTICAL software with the data represented in tables and graphs. The researcher concluded that despite all reasonable precautions should be taken on work places to protect health and safety of workers, still a lot has to be done to meet and adhere to international health and safety standards. Also it revealed that most of the employees in most organizations don't really understand the importance of health and safety in organizations as they feel as a way of employers harassment .In addition it was revealed most organization don't really keep records for on permits to work places, accidents ,health and safety of the employees. The researcher recommended that emergency procedure manual to be introduced to enable workers to be able to equip during emergency in organizations. Also report keeping should emphasized on health and safety and auditing both internal and external to be carried out periodically to establish any failures in the systems and give out necessary actions. In addition organizations safety plan, fire fighting equipments and first aid kits should be placed in areas of easy access and all employees are trained on their operations and usage. To ensure proper health and safety in organizations a policy should be established by the government as a law for all organizations with more than twenty employees to put in place international standards of health and safety. More research should be carried out on the existence of health and safety issues to all established community based organizations in Kenya and impact on the employees working environment and necessary action be taken to any found defaulters in relation to the law in the constitution of Government of Kenya.en_US
